I am fascinated by atmospheres and the life of built forms. My creative practice seeks to uncover and reflect these relationships through each project. I would like people to be empowered by the spaces they inhabit, making design more accessible and inclusive.

I am a formally trained architect, dedicated collage artist and multidisciplinary designer. As I work across many scales, whether it be adapting existing dwellings, building a new home, integrating art into space or designing bespoke objects, I believe in creating a multi-faceted approach to the “home.”

Design should emanate through rigorous site analysis and be receptive to what unfolds during this analysis. It is not sufficient to skim over a site. Too often, developers and clients chose a program for the site well before any true engagement. We seldom ask a site what it needs. Site analysis is not the start of a project, it is a fluid, informative and powerful tool to generate design well before its conception and well past its completion. To emanate is to flow out of.

The world has been littered with projects that, almost before completion, are inadequate for their intended use, which has often been the result of many political, economic and disciplinary issues, ingrained in our society. This leads to a mutual feeling that something is “missing.” Climate crisis, technological advancements, cultural changes and the impending resource shortages are all reasons to treat sustainability with a sense of urgency and seriousness. However, it is important to remain critical and avoid the human penchant for “solutions.”

I hope to address the affordable housing crisis and the cookie cutter solution. By returning to the poetics of space… the look, the listen, the feel…can we form a rhythm or a new sense of flow?

A conversation needs to be started around empowering home owners, fostering a stronger sense of community and creating better outcomes for their longevity and eventual resale value.
